Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran is an American businesswoman. The Corcoran Group, an NY-based real estate broker was started by Corcoran. NRT bought it in 2001 for $66 million. Corcoran then exited the company. Corcoran, one of ABC's initial Shark investors has been part of each episode of Shark Tank. As of February 2020, she's signed 53 deals for the show, with the most significant being a $350,000 investment for 40 percent of Coverplay. Corcoran was the second child in a family of 10 children and was raised in Edgewater. Florence, her mother, was an exemplary homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was constantly moving between jobs and the next throughout Corcoran's youth. Her family was sometimes dependent on food delivered by an artisanal local grocery store for free food. Corcoran still remembers her father as someone who drank sometimes and treated her mother with disrespect. Corcoran struggled through her schooling and was later diagnosed with dyslexia. Corcoran was a student at a local Catholic elementary school, and then began high school in St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. After failing several classes during her freshman year, Corcoran transferred to Leonia High School and graduated as a D student.
